ANHBC $10aDay Initiative
The Association of Neighbourhood Houses of BC has launched a campaign to protect $10aDay child care, noting that slow progress and funding gaps are putting the program at risk in BC.
The campaign states, “The federal government committed to building a $10aDay child care system but funding gaps are now putting that promise in jeopardy. In BC, expansion has slowed, and it’s unclear when new spaces will be created or how stable existing programs will be.”
Only 10% of child care spaces in BC are currently capped at $10 a day, and the fear is that, without stronger federal and provincial action, fees could rise, waitlists could grow, new spaces may not be created, and existing programs could face closure.
Noting that affordable child care helps parents, especially women, return to work and support their families, supports children’s development, and helps to keep communities connected, the campaign asks supporters of the initiative to go to the website at https://anhbc.org/2026/03/help-protect-10aday-child-care/ and send a pre-filled letter (or personally customized letter) to federal and provincial leaders, using the links provided on the website.
