If you’re anything like me, you likely hold a combination of degrees in disciplines like social work, nursing, women’s studies, psychology, sociology, etc. While these studies certinaly prepared you for your current role in a number of ways, they may not have provided you with the financial management tools you current require. The Muttart Foundation out of Alberta has prepared a guide for the financial management of non-profits by Boards. While some of the information is definitely specific to Boards, much of it would be very applicable to anyone with financial management responsibilities in their job description.

Chapters are included on everything from budget planning to how to read (really read) a financial statement. There are also a number of checklists and resources included to help you develop internal policies or documents.

Check out the guide here.
